Parent + Volunteer Information
For Parents
We want parents to gain a better understanding of the club experience and what to expect. Please set aside some time to read this page.
Evolve Fair Share Volunteer Information
The club requires a large amount of manpower to run and our aim is to share the work load as evenly as possible. We require volunteer’s for many things including our board of director’s, help on hill for training and events, parent travel coordinators, chaperone’s on away trips and our biggest requirement is for our club casino which is our main fundraiser (and a major factor in subsidizing program costs and keeping them down).
Programs will include a volunteer deposit at the start of the season, which will be given back or put towards next season once the required number of volunteer hours are put in for the season. Below you will find the volunteer requirement for each level of program and some of the opportunities to volunteer.
Programs:
$200 Volunteer Deposit (JR All MTN SB, All MTN Skiers, Evolve Freeskiers)- 1 shift (8 hours)
$250 Volunteer Deposit (Western Freestyle SB, Performance SB, Intro to SX)- 2 shifts (16 hours)
$400 Volunteer Deposit (Western SBX, Western SX)- 3 shifts (24 hours)
Volunteer Opportunities:
1) Club Casino- Our biggest fundraiser and largest need for volunteers. This is a great opportunity to get your volunteer commitment out of the way in 1 or 2 shifts. Next casino early August in Calgary.
2) On Hill Support- We need volunteers and officials to help with training on hill in the SX/SBX track and help with club run events in a number of positions.
3) Parent travel coordinators- Help to coordinate team travel for the traveling programs
4) Volunteer coordinators- help to organize volunteers throughout the season
Is the evolve club appropriate for my child?
Yes, more than ever. We have numerous programs for every level of skier/rider, from beginners who can link turns right up to competitive FIS athletes.
What if my kid doesn’t want to compete?
Not every child has the desire to compete, that is why we have pure recreational programs and separate competitive programs.
What is your drug / alcohol policy?
Evolve has a strict NO-tolerance substance control policy. The policy is specifically stated within the acknowledgment parents and athletes sign at the beginning of the club year. We send kids home, with no refund, for violating this policy.
I don’t have time to volunteer – what are the volunteer requirements?
Everyone must pay the volunteer deposit at the start of the year, you will receive it back at the end of the year if you fulfill the required number of hours for your child’s particular program. Each program has a different requirement as some programs require more volunteer hours to make them run smoothly. If you don’t want to volunteer, the deposit will be kept in order for us to hire people for jobs the club must perform that are normally done by volunteers.
What is the Sunday schedule?
We meet at 9:15 in front of the Kokanne Cabin at the base of Lake Louise and will be riding shortly after that.
We break for lunch at 11:30ish and athletes can eat together with some of the coaches and other athletes in the main lodge cafeteria or their families. We finish the day at 3:15 pm outside the main lodge.
Is there a problem if my child cannot attend every day?
We advise that your child attend as many of the Sundays and evenings at COP as possible, so they may learn as quickly as possible. However we are aware there will be circumstances that arise from time to time.
We do not refund for any missed days. Any days canceled by the club due to inclement weather are made up after the end of the regular season.
What is a race deposit?
Many of the club athletes travel to competitive events. The club will book condos, manage food and entry fees for these events. The costs for these events are invoiced to the athlete against the race deposit. When the race deposit is used, we may ask for another deposit to top up the race account. You will receive an invoice for each of the events your child attends.
How do you handle injuries and safety concerns?
We work closely with the hill’s ski patrols to assess injuries to athletes. When an athlete is injured, coaches have phone numbers for parents and/or guardians and will contact them to let them know what has occurred and what are the next steps.
Can I drop my child at the hill and leave?
You can drop your child at the hill, but you will need to let the coaches know you are leaving and ensure they have correct contact information. You will also have to give your child clear instructions about where they are to meet you after the day or evening coaching is completed.
Are there fundraising commitments?
We have recently been approved for a casino for mid 2012. We will need all the bodies we can get for the volunteer commitment. We expect to raise about $60,000 which will help keep fees low. This is our main fundraiser and a good opportunity to fulfill your volunteer requirement for the season.
What type of equipment does my child need?
You child needs ability, appropriate ski/snowboard, bindings and boots.
Our coaches are available for consultation on the best equipment for your child.
Helmets are mandatory. We will not allow your child on the hill unless they are wearing a correctly fitted helmet at all times.
Lake Louise can vary greatly in temperature. Always send a warm jacket, snow pants, a couple pairs of mittens or gloves, face warmer, and goggles. Send your child with a backpack to hold hand warmers, fleeces and extra gloves.
For Lake Louise Days, make sure your child has a hearty lunch (packed or bought), water and enough snacks to get them through the day. Remember, they will be boarding for 6 hours and it isn’t fun to bonk in the middle of the afternoon!!!!
What happens with extreme weather days?
If there are days with extreme weather (cold, wind, lightning) COP will call coaches and let them know the hill is shut down. Coaches will email or call athletes to advise them of the shutdown.
Call Lake Louise if you suspect they might shut for the day because of weather. Coaches will often go to the hill to see weather conditions, but might not be able to reach athletes in the morning.
Check your emails often on the days of bad weather!!! We make up weather days at the end the of season.
Many families will buy day passes for their athletes at COP to take advantage of the reduced rates for Lake Louise Pass Holders.
